OptikosPrime partners with Tarabai Desai Eye Hospital to strengthen global eye screening precision

Global precision in eye screening requires real-world data from diverse populations. Our partnership with Tarabai Desai Eye Hospital in Rajasthan is an essential step toward building technology that works reliably across regions.

The challenge

Building accurate and reliable vision screening technology requires more than strong algorithms. It requires data that reflects real people, real environments, and real clinical settings across the world.

One of the biggest challenges in developing eye screening solutions at scale is ensuring precision across regions. Vision data collected in Europe alone is not enough. Eye health profiles, environmental factors, outreach conditions, and screening settings vary significantly between areas, especially when comparing urban hospitals with large rural outreach programs.

Without a globally distributed dataset, even the most advanced technology risks being biased toward a limited population. Solving this challenge is critical if eye screening tools are to work reliably for everyone, everywhere.

The solution

To address this challenge, OptikosPrime partners with hospitals and eye care providers worldwide to build a diverse dataset and validate the technology in real-world clinical and outreach settings.

We are pleased to announce a new partnership with Tarabai Desai Eye Hospital in Rajasthan, India.

Tarabai Desai Eye Hospital is a regional centre for excellence in eye care, serving as one of the largest providers of quality eye services in western Rajasthan. The hospital operates with a highly trained team of doctors and paramedical staff. It also runs hundreds of free eye camps every year, bringing quality vision care directly into rural and remote communities where access to health services is limited. Annually, the hospital treats tens of thousands of patients, performs thousands of surgeries, and continues to expand both its clinical capacity and its outreach impact.

Through this collaboration, Tarabai Desai Eye Hospital will support OptikosPrime in collecting real-world clinical and outreach data, which will be used further to improve the precision and robustness of its products.

In addition, the hospital sees strong potential in utilising OptikosPrime’s technology both within the hospital setting and as part of its expansive outreach work, where early screening and efficient triage are essential to serve large populations.

The collaboration was formally kicked off with an on-site visit by OptikosPrime, where the focus was on aligning objectives, introducing the technology in detail, and providing hands-on training to the hospital team to support both clinical use and field deployment.

Ståle Fredlund Husby, Co-founder of OptikosPrime, said:

“Building globally reliable technology requires working closely with hospitals in different regions of the world. Partnerships like this allow us to improve precision faster while ensuring our products fit real clinical workflows and large-scale outreach operations.”

The results

The partnership establishes a foundation for long-term collaboration around both data and deployment.

For OptikosPrime, access to clinical and outreach data from Rajasthan strengthens the global dataset needed to improve accuracy across regions and use cases. For Tarabai Desai Eye Hospital, the collaboration opens new opportunities to streamline screening, improve triage, and extend eye care services further into underserved communities.

The initial on-site training ensures that the hospital team is fully equipped to integrate the technology into daily operations from the outset.

Sanjiv Desai, Medical Director at Tarabai Desai Eye Hospital, said:

“We see strong value in technology that enables faster screening and better prioritisation of patients. The ability to use these tools both within the hospital and in our outreach programs can help us reach more people earlier, especially in rural areas where access to eye care is limited.”

What’s next?

The next phase of the collaboration will focus on expanding data collection, refining workflows, and exploring broader deployment across both hospital-based care and outreach programs in Rajasthan.

For OptikosPrime, this partnership represents another important step toward building globally relevant eye screening solutions. By working closely with hospitals operating in diverse environments, the company continues to move closer to its goal of making early eye screening more accessible, precise, and scalable worldwide.
